250 Aftershocks:
Lebanon Earthquake
On February 6, the whole world woke up to the terrible news of the humanitarian catastrophe created by the earthquake whose epicenter was located in Pazarcik in the Kahramanmaras province of Turkey. The magnitude of the earthquake caused the consequences to affect 8 countries in the region: Cyprus, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Georgia and Armenia.
SITUATION IN LEBANON
Although the severity of the catastrophe is undoubtedly affecting the closest areas of Turkey and Syria more, the Lebanese population is also suffering the consequences of the catastrophe.
People all over Lebanon woke up on Monday, February 6, 2023, at around 3:18 am, to a strong sense of trembling. Many Lebanese people evacuated their buildings. They later learned that a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook southern Turkey, just a few kilometers from Gaziantep.

CURRENTLY IN LEBANON:
So far, no deaths have been reported in the country, although material damage has been reported inside homes, businesses and building exteriors.
Many Lebanese are still on the streets refusing to return to their homes for fear of further aftershocks. The vast majority cite the trauma and aftermath of the August 2020 Beirut port explosion as the main reason.
1. Collapsed building in Saadnayel, Beqaa.
2. Minor damage to a building in the north of the country.
3. Residents reported firing shots in the air to wake up people whose buildings were threatening to collapse. This has accidentally caused the bullet to hit the head of a Syrian refugee child in Bar Elias, Beqaa.
OUR SUPPORT
URDA’s emergency response is focused on saving lives and ensuring minimum standards in elevated areas of Lebanon for Syrian refugee families affected by the earthquake.
However, Syrian refugees living in camps do not have access to a safe area, nor do they have an emergency plan to cope with such conditions.
URDA provides emergency assistance to ensure that they are well equipped and safe with the necessary material for this type of natural disaster (flashlight, first aid kit, batteries (for flashlight), umbrella, whistle and earthquake safety manual). The earthquake emergency kit will be distributed according to the selection criteria of the most affected Syrian refugee families for 500 households.
